Le Clos du Chêne Gets a Street Art Makeover
Twelve graffiti artists have transformed the Clos du Chêne shopping center in Marne-la-Vallée (77) into an open-air urban art museum. A unique cultural project sponsored by Speedy Graphito.
With 10 million visitors each year, Clos du Chêne is one of the largest open-air shopping centers in the Île-de-France region… decked out in street art! It’s a great way to introduce urban art to as many people as possible. The goal is also to turn this shopping center into a cultural destination through an artistic stroll. “I’ve always believed that art can educate the eye and open the mind. And Street Art is a social and popular art form, in contrast to institutional art, which is impenetrable and elitist. Taking over a commercial space like Clos du Chêne means bringing art into everyday life where you least expect it,” explains Speedy Graphito, patron of the project.
An artistic performance
Twelve artists were selected by Gérard Lémarié (a philosopher with a passion for art) and Speedy Graphito, who were given 21 locations on the site’s facades to create monumental works. The following artists’ works can be seen:
– Speedy Graphito, locations 1 & 10;
– Lady M, location 20;
– Doudou Style, locations 7 & 15;
– Andrea Ravo Mattoni, location 19;- Akhine, locations 12 & 18;- Vinie Graffiti, locations 6 & 13;- Romain Froquet, locations 8 & 17;- Mosko, locations 3 & 14;- Chanoir, locations 9 & 16;- Kashink, locations 2 & 10;- Pro176, locations 4 & 11;- RNST, location 5. Every year, new artists will enrich the graphic tour. Enough to give other sites some ideas…
