Graffiti on Display in Fresnes
Following the 2019 exhibition “La pléiade urbaine,” the Espace d’art Chaillioux returns to urban art, street art, graffiti, and tags for its 37th exhibition… For the occasion, Koeurélé has brought together Diksa, Nebay, Nilko, Wire, Michaël Barek, and Shoof, who will create large, one-of-a-kind pieces for the event. The exhibition’s title, “Inside Outside,” refers both to the complementarity between work on the street and work in the studio, as well as between practice in public spaces and institutional recognition. For this informal collective, it is not a matter of denying the original spirit of graffiti. This shift from the outside to the inside is not insignificant but reflects the evolution of a movement long considered marginal and which is—finally—taking over spaces dedicated to art.
An Unchanging
Energy The exhibition also explores the artistic evolution from a free, spontaneous gesture toward a more thoughtful and profound creativity. For this experiment, the seven artists do not hesitate to step outside their comfort zones, exploring new realms through canvas, wood, paper, or sculpture. But the initial energy—that of direct contact, risk, and reality—does not disappear. It persists, filtered, transformed, yet still vibrant. And it is found in this collective project centered around an informal crew.
